Think back to the last time someone gave you a compliment. How did it make you feel? Amazing? Happy? Accomplished? Determined? Stronger? Compliments are like gifts that people give one another. And, when you pass on that gift of positive energy, the receiver can feel it deep in their soul and carry it with them throughout the day. It makes them feel good and makes you feel good, too! But, the very best part is that they, in turn, will more than likely pass some of that positive energy on to someone else.
Any compliment that comes from the heart, filled with good intention, can have a huge impact on someone’s day, week, or even life! But, there are some compliments that mean more than others. Telling someone their hair is pretty will make them feel good. Telling someone you love the painting they just finished and that you think they have a ton of talent can actually influence that person to pursue a career as an artist. With that in mind, I have listed below what I feel are 10 of the best compliments to give and receive.
1. “You always make me smile.”
Knowing that you have the gift of making someone smile is one of the greatest feelings in the world! You know that you are brightening that person’s day merely by existing in this world. It makes you feel happy. It makes the receiver feel happy. And, then your and their happiness is spread to others. What a wonderful thing!
2. “You are beautiful…inside and out!”
A compliment regarding your physical appearance can give your ego a boost. But, having someone tell you that you have a beautiful soul is so much more meaningful! They’re telling you that you are an amazing person and that they appreciate who you are.
3. “You are/will be a wonderful parent!”
Bringing another life into this world is an awe-inspiring achievement. As a parent, you are the one who molds a little child into the adult they will become. A parent is a child’s greatest influence.
So, giving someone this compliment is telling them that they are the kind of person who is able to take on the task of raising the next generation into happy, healthy, productive adults.
4. “You’re a glass half full person.”
Being told that you’re a “glass half full” person is saying that you are a positive person who looks for the good in every person and situation. So, rather than giving up or shutting down, you try to find solutions to any problem that arises. Besides that, a positive person is much easier to be around than a negative one. Whether you consider yourself an optimist or not, acting optimistic draws people to you and makes you someone other people want to be round.
5. “You are always there for me.”
When someone tells you this they are saying that you are the one person they can always count on in a pinch. You are a true, dependable, reliable friend. What a wonderful compliment!
6. “You really walk the walk.”
When someone tells you this it means they think you are genuine in your words. You don’t just say you will do something; you do it! Your words are backed up by actions. That is something that will earn you a lot of respect and something to be proud of!
7. “You’re a breath of fresh air!”
Think about a hot summer day. The sun is beating down on you, the air is still and you feel like you’re in an over. Then, all of a sudden, this sweet, cool summer breeze wafts over you. Ahhhhh. What a gift! Well, when someone tells you that you’re a breath of fresh air, that’s what they’re telling you. You make them feel refreshed and amazing. Maybe you’re the positive in their sea of negative. The bright spot in their dreary day. What an amazing thing to be!
8. “You’re a wonderful example!”
Being told that you are a wonderful example to others is one of the best compliments there is! It says you are a real role model; someone to look up to; someone for others to emulate. If someone tells you this, you should feel proud! You deserve it!
9. “You are trustworthy.”
It’s not often in life that you find someone you can truly trust. It takes a very special person to make someone feel secure enough to tell anything to. They know you will listen, not judge them, give feedback if asked, and not tell anyone else about the conversation. Trust is a beautiful gift to give and receive.
10. “Thanks for being YOU!”
This short, simple compliment is one of the best things anyone can tell you. The person telling you this truly accepts and acknowledges who you are in your most basic self. They appreciate you for what you bring to their life. They enjoy your company. The person you are is a blessing in their life. What a beautiful thing!
