“This article will show you how to live forever.”
OK, maybe not forever… but at least boost your health so that it’s highly likely you will live longer, and have a better quality of life.
And who knows, in 80 years we might all be immortal cyborgs filled with healing nano-robots, cruising around in flying cars while tripping on some superdrug made by our Artificial Intelligence Overlords.
Whatever the future holds, these 11 tips have the potential to enhance the quality of your life.
Eat Curcumin
To list all the benefits of curcumin would require its own article. This bright yellow chemical, well-known from the herb turmeric, has been well studied. Its effects includes anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, anti-cancer, longevity [1], painkiller, digestion-aid, and cholesterol-regulation, to name a few.
Curcumin boosts the release of both dopamine and serotonin, two brain chemicals that will boost your mood.
As a spice, you can sprinkle turmeric on almost anything you eat. Use it together with black pepper to enhance its bioavailability. [2]
Eat Flax Seeds
Flax seeds are nutrition bombs with many health benefits. And they are easy to incorporate into your diet.
For an instant health boost blend them into your smoothie; sprinkle them on pasta, wok, or stew; bake them into bread, or cookies; add them to oatmeal, or yoghurt.

Restrict Calories
Calorie restriction increases longevity, and reverses signs of aging. It protects against obesity, type 2 diabetes, inflammation, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and reduces metabolic risk factors associated with cancer. [3]
Now you have something to throw on the table when you’re asked why you only helped yourself to four servings of Grandma Rose’s Lasagna.
To reduce calories you can try intermittent fasting – e.g. to eat during an 8 hour window and fast for 16 hours, or fast for 2 days and eat like normal for 5 days.
Or you can eat until you are 80% full, then drink water (or tea, or coffee).
Avoid Sugar
Sugar intake is a fairly new phenomenon. About 75% of all foods and drinks contain added sugar in different forms.
Tons of research suggests that it plays a role in many of today’s most common diseases; including type 2 diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, dental caries, metabolic syndrome, depression, and obesity. [4] [5]
Sugar is compared to highly addictive drugs like cocaine and heroine when it comes to potential for addiction. [6]
Beware of your sugar intake, and avoid it altogether when you can.
Avoid Processed Foods
Processed foods contains a lot of ingredients you wouldn’t cook with at home. It is the number one source of added sugar in the average U.S. diet. This overconsumption of processed foods is a major cause of disease. [7] [8]
Avoid fast food, soda, and other processed food-like stuff. Make delicious food from scratch using real, unprocessed ingredients.
Exercise
Exercise keeps your body and mind young and feeling good – it slows aging.
We also know that exercise promotes growth of new brain cells, especially in the hippocampus; the area responsible for emotions, memory and the autonomous nervous system.
Regular exercise stimulates the release of endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, BDNF, and nitric oxide; brain chemicals that make you feel happy, calm, fulfilled, creative, and confident.
Find a form of exercise that you enjoy, and start today.
Meditate
Meditation has been proven to decrease stress and anxiety, increase positive emotions, grow new brain cells, slow aging, and a whole range of other benefits.
Meditation will improve your mental and physical health.
Try to meditate every day. It does not have to be for more than 5 minutes. Frequency is more important than duration. See if you can increase your practice to 20 minutes after a while.
“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day — unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.” —Zen proverb
Be Grateful
Gratitude promotes happiness. Happiness promotes health. Simple as that.
Think about what makes you grateful every day. Just looking for things to be grateful about is enough to reap the benefits.
Get Sunlight
Sunlight boosts your health. It gives you vitamin D which helps prevent a number of diseases, including diabetes, depression, obesity, heart-disease, and cancer. [9]
Bright light also helps you sleep better – an important factor of longevity.
The sun’s warming light will enhance your mood. A happiness-bringing chemical cocktail of serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins is released in your brain when you get sunlight.
20 minutes to an hour every day is enough. Go play in the sun!
Drink Red Wine in Moderation
This one is easy to do for most of us (not always the moderation part).
Red wine contains a chemical called resveratrol that aids longevity and prevents against cardiovascular diseases. [10]
Cheers!
Extra: You Are Already Eternal
If you develop a non-separate view – because, we are all One – you see that you can never die. On this deepest level, we are all eternal. When you expand your personal bubble to include you as All That Is, instead of just you as a-person-in-a-world, you can never cease to exist.
Knowing that there is no separation will make you act for the greater good of everything. Doing things for yourself, is not doing things for yourself – it is doing things for everyone and everything.
Such an expanded point of view brings great passion that will leave a trail for others to be inspired from. It will never pass.
