Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over, and yet expecting things to change.
If we complain, that means that we have not fully accepted the situation yet and don't understand why our actions netted an outcome that they did. We will likely repeat our actions, and unfortunately, the outcome as well. Then we will complain to anyone who would listen.
This is a pattern common amongst many people. The story below illustrates why you should stop complaining right now. After the story ends, we give a few tips to help you stop complaining.
Here is the video of the Wise Man and the Joke, followed by the transcript.
People have been coming to the wise man, complaining about the same problems all the time.
One day, the wise man told them a joke and everyone roared with laughter.
After a couple of minutes he told them the same joke and only a few of them smiled.
When he told the same joke for the third time, no one laughed anymore.
The wise man asked why no one was laughing.
One of the group told him: "You have told the same joke three times! It's not funny anymore, as you are not changing any of it."
The wise man smiled and said: "You can't laugh at the same joke over and over. So why are you always complaining about the same problem over and over again, without changing anything?"
How to Stop Complaining.
There are a few tried and tested ways that will help you stop complaining.
1. By being grateful for your situation in life and what you already have.
It is only natural to want more and better things. But when we are grateful for all that we already have, we put out to the universe a vibe of abundance. What we put out, comes back at us - so by being grateful we are inviting even more things into our lives that we can be grateful for.
.
2. By saying no more often.
A big problem for many people is their inability to say no. This leads them to accepting work they can't finish on time, clients that they don't like, dates which they would avoid and brings all kinds of misery into their lives.
3. By accepting that change is constant.
Many times people fear change and what it might bring. They love where they are now, they've stopped working on themselves and they don't want to face the consequences of having to fight for what they deserve, again. But change is constant and it is to be celebrated. You can always be the one to bring that change, instead of waiting for it.
4. By believing in yourself.
If you believe in yourself, you have no reason to complain. You understand that life will never be completely fair, and you are ready to go after what you want.
5. By releasing your worries.
It is important to understand that worry won't change what is happening. All it will do is it will make you more prone to mistakes. If you are always worried about something, you will get stressed needlessly and make your life harder for no reason.
